THE GOODNESS OF GOD IN THE WAITING

by Bobby Brooks

No one likes waiting, especially me on the phone. I called for an answer - not to listen to the worst music ever! Through the years, I have learned that waiting is one of the hardest disciplines of the Christian life. It stretches our faith, tests our obedience, and exposes our trust in God. Yet, it is in the waiting that we often discover the deepest dimensions of God's goodness.

Waiting is not wasted. Waiting is where Heaven does its greatest work.

Maybe you’ve prayed. Maybe you’ve fasted. Maybe you’ve obeyed. And yet—heaven has felt silent. Doors have stayed shut. Answers delayed. Promises unfulfilled. But hear this: God is not inactive in your waiting. He’s not indifferent. He’s not forgotten you. He is working in the waiting!

“Don’t be distracted by what you see—there is still a plan, there is still a purpose, there is still a promise.”

That is not just a nice phrase—it’s a prophetic word to anchor your soul. It’s the voice of the Spirit pushing back against the lies of delay. It’s Heaven declaring over your life: “I’m not done. I’m not through. I’m still writing your story.” Those are the words the Holy Spirit spoke to me during COVID as everything was shutting down and the normalcy of life was changing.

Heaven Works in Hiddenness

Let’s talk Bible. Joseph had dreams—but before he ever saw fulfillment, he was betrayed, sold, imprisoned, and forgotten. What sustained him? The goodness of God in the waiting.

Genesis 39:21 (NKJV) says, “But the Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy, and He gave him favor…” That’s the goodness of God in delay. God didn’t wait until Joseph made it to Pharaoh’s palace to be good—He was good in the prison. He was present in the pit. He was faithful in the shadows.

And so, He is with you.

You may not see the evidence of the breakthrough yet. You may not feel the fruit of the promise. But if God is with you—His goodness is already surrounding you. Don’t be distracted by what you see.

The Waiting Season is the Weighing Season

Waiting is where God weighs your heart, builds your character, and teaches your ears to hear. Many seek promotion, but few want preparation. Pentecostal fire isn’t just about power—it’s also about purity. The Upper Room didn’t explode until the disciples spent ten days waiting.

Acts 1:4 (NKJV) says that Jesus commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father. Ten days of silence. Ten days of the unknown. But then—suddenly—the Spirit came.

Some of you are on Day 6. Some of you are on Day 9. Don’t give up! Keep praying! Keep trusting! Because your suddenly is still on schedule!

God is teaching you to discern. He’s refining your desires. He’s building strength in the silence. The delay is not denial—it’s divine development.

Hope Has a Pulse

Romans 8:25 (NKJV) says, “But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.”

Hope in the waiting isn’t just wishful thinking—its faith breathing under pressure.

The enemy wants to assassinate your expectation. He wants you to confuse waiting with abandonment, but God wants to awaken your faith again. There’s a pulse to your promise. There’s movement in the womb of delay.

Don’t be distracted by what you see—there is still a plan, there is still a purpose, there is still a promise.

Even when you don’t see it—He’s working.

Even when you don’t feel it—He’s moving.

Even when you’re weeping—He’s weaving His glory into your story.

The Goodness of God is Not Just the Outcome—It’s in the Process

Psalm 27:13 (NKJV) says, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”

David didn’t say, “I saw His goodness, so I kept going.” No—he believed it before he saw it and that belief kept his heart alive.

Let me tell you: there’s goodness in your desert. There’s manna falling even when the Promised Land seems far. There’s water in your wilderness.

Yes, He’s the God of open doors—but He’s also the God who shuts doors to protect you. Yes, He’s the God who parts seas—but He’s also the God who teaches you how to walk by faith when the waters don’t part right away.

His goodness is not only revealed in miracles—it’s revealed in the moments of mercy that hold you together when you feel like falling apart.

Pentecostal Power in the Waiting Room

This is not a passive wait—it’s a Pentecostal wait.

Jude 1:20 (NKJV) says, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

Don’t waste your waiting—war in it.

Don’t sleep through it—soak in it.

Don’t complain in it—contend in it.

Pray in tongues. Fast for clarity. Worship through the tears. Praise through the pain. Lift your eyes. Build your faith. The waiting room is where your spirit learns to dance before the victory comes!

There is still a plan. There is still a purpose. There is still a promise.

The Wait Will Be Worth It

God has never made a promise He didn’t plan to fulfill. Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength…”

Notice that: not after they wait—but in the waiting. Strength comes to the one who stays.

You may feel tired. You may feel stretched. You may feel like nothing is happening, but something IS happening.

God is:

  • Preparing the right people

  • Aligning divine appointments

  • Closing wrong doors

  • Deepening your roots

  • Building resilience

  • And setting the stage for what only He can do

And when it comes—it will come fast. Suddenly. Overflowing. Pressed down, shaken together, and running over.

Just don’t jump out of the process too early. Don’t birth an Ishmael while you wait for your Isaac. Don’t abandon your altar while the fire is on its way.

To the one waiting for healing—He’s still Jehovah Rapha.

To the one waiting for restoration—He’s still the God of resurrection.

To the one waiting for purpose—He’s still writing chapters that eyes have not seen and ears have not heard.

To the one waiting in the dark—He is the Light of the World, and He will shine in your midnight.

Don’t be distracted by what you see—there is still a plan, there is still a purpose, there is still a promise.

So, wait boldly. Wait with fire. Wait in faith.

Because the God who began the good work is still at work, and His goodness is chasing you—even in the waiting.
